Dear Antoinette's mom,

I just read your letter and agree with you on all things but maybe one and that is about letting your child(ren) know how stressed the parents are.

I found that once I joined in on my sons' chorus of "I hate diabetes," that mantra slowly disappeared from our lives because there was no need to state the obvious. Once that negative phrase disappeared from our lives, we found that the anger had mostly disappeared as well.

We live our lives with two teenage boys on the pump, going to school, going abroad on vacation, falling in love and in friendship, living normal lives like Antoinette with her pump and cell phone. I guess diabetes, like any life threatening disease has made us realize that life is fragile, precious and that "normal" has different meanings for different people.
